BioVic Murphy was born and raised in Kenai, Alaska. From a young age, Vic was involved in action sports including racing motorcycles at nine years old, and marking the trail with two other riders on snowmobile for the 1,000 mile Iditarod sled dog race through the interior of Alaska as a teenager. Vic’s love for extreme sports led him to having one of the first dealerships for snowboards and skateboards in Alaska in addition to being a professional break dancer in his teens. Upon moving to California during his senior year of high school, Vic fulfilled his dream and became a pro bicycle freestyle rider, winning contests and helping to revolutionize BMX into what we have today in the X-games. As the owner of several bicycle companies and as a world-renowned pro and pioneer in BMX along with his involvement in many other sports, Vic has a unique platform to reach this generation with the message of Jesus Christ. Whether Vic is proclaiming the Gospel throughout the United States and overseas at youth groups, school assemblies or large scale crusades (with Luis Palau Festivals and Horizon Festival of Life with Mike Macintosh) along with frequent appearances on Extreme Life TV and as a featured rider on the Luis Palau DVD “Livin It,” sharing the Gospel in a clear and relevant way is the foundation of his ministry. Using humor and everyday illustrations, Vic communicates the timeless truths and infallibility of the Bible in today's language. "People today need hope and they want to know the truth and see it lived out in our lives," Reaching out to this generation through action sports helps break down the stereotypes that religion has built and allows us to bring the message that God wants a personal relationship with us through His Son right where we are at. Young people today are hungry for spiritual truth that leads to a relationship with Jesus Christ.” Vic is also passionate about equipping Christians to share their faith. "I have a great desire to help people see the great commission is the most extreme and exiting thing anyone can do!” All of us must work together to take the Gospel to the entire world," he says. "It's going to take every Christian living out our faith in our communities if we hope to fulfill the Great Commission in this generation. We all have to do our part as members of the Body of Christ to build up and encourage one another using the gifts and talents that God has given each of us” Vic has a burden to encourage and disciple young people to serve the Body of Christ. Vic is an ordained minister and serves on staff as an assistant to Pastor and San Diego Police Chaplain, Rob Glickman at Horizon Christian Fellowship (Park Chapel) in downtown San Diego, a non-denominational church affiliated directly with Calvary Chapel. Vic has taught a Sunday night service for over 3 years and also pastors an outreach church in the beach area on Sunday mornings called Coast Chapel. Vic is also a partner evangelist with the Luis Palau Next Generation Alliance. He recently formed Action Sports Outreach, which is a ministry of Christian extreme sports athletes committed to impacting this generation by proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ using extreme sports style outreach. Vic is 35 and lives with his wife Shelly in San Diego, California. TestimonyVic was 22 when he gave his life to Jesus. After picking up a Christian book in a grocery store for more ammunition to argue against the existence of God with his friends, his plan backfired! “I searched for fulfillment in sports and was empty until I found the truth of Jesus.” He became involved in street evangelism as well as using action sports to reach people with the gospel. He says “I have no greater desire in life than to preach and proclaim God’s word to this generation!” |
