Bio

Walking on Water is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Professional surfer Bryan Jennings started Walking on Water in 1995 with the vision to use his surfing abilities to share his faith with young people. His idea was to hold an overnight surf camp for junior high and high school students where he would not only teach students how to surf, but also focus on sharing his Christian faith.  What started as a small surf camp of ten students has now grown into a worldwide ministry reaching thousands of people through surf camps and surf films.

Since 1995, over 1,000 students have attended the surf camps and clinics held in San Diego, California. During the first years of Walking on Water, students attended the camps primarily from the surrounding local area. However, in recent years they have had a large percentage of students fly in from around the United States and other countries that include Australia, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

Walking on Water has greatly expanded its scope with the production of surf films.  Beginning with Follow the Leader (1996) which features Tom Curren, CT Taylor and Bryan Jennings, among other pros.  Changes (1998) highlights the surfing and testimonies of many top surfers and features the Chris O'Rourke story.  Over 50,000 copies of Changes have been distributed, making it one of the most distributed surf videos ever.  The Outsiders (2002) features 2001 World Champion CJ Hobgood, Damien Hobgood, Matt Beacham, Tim Curran, Jesse Hines, and others. The Outsiders mixes high quality professional surf footage with a deeper look into the lives of the featured surfers.  Noah's Arc (2004) documents the life of outer banks North Carolina surfer, Noah Snyder, and how a community of surfers was changed forever by God.  Noah's Arc east and west coast tours included stops in 34 cities around the country, in addition to the 50,000 people who have seen Noah's Arc at an outreach event.  The re-release of this film with foreign language subtitles also made international tours and outreach possible in the fall of 2005. In 2006, Walking on Water traveled internationally filming what they hope be their best movie to date. Since this film is so much of the heart of their ministry, they decided to title the film Walking on Water: A Grom Dream Trip. It will be released in September of 2007.

Walking on Water tours with their surf films, renting theaters, bars, school auditoriums and other venues to premiere the films and then present the gospel. The organization partners with local churches, Christian Surfer chapters and other para-church organizations, as well as motivated individuals to hold the premieres, which are held free of charge. Over the past few years, literally thousands of people have made decisions for Jesus Christ through the films and premieres.

Walking on Water is a unique organization that fills a need within the surfing community. People young and old, male or female, surfer or non-surfer, have come to appreciate and connect with the life saving message of Jesus Christ conveyed through their films. Speaking engagements at various public and private schools, church youth groups and local youth events are other ways Walking on Water positively impacts the lives of this generation's youth.

Walking on Water is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3) that relies on the financial support of individuals, churches and foundations. A portion of the video sales and surf camp revenue continues to fund the organization's activities as well.

Testimony

As I was growing up, my friends and I were doing what many teenagers are doing today – drinking, having sex before marriage and swearing.  I was left feeling very empty.  One night I decided to read the Bible that had been sitting, gathering dust, on my desk.

I flipped open the Bible and the very first scripture I read was Isaiah 1:18, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…if you are willing and obedient, you will inherit the best of the land, but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.”

After reading that scripture, I knew that God was giving me two choices.  I could either obey Him and be blessed, or I could resist Him and be miserable.  I had already experienced for the previous 17 years what life is like when I chose to resist God and try to do things my way.  I knew I needed to live my life the way God wanted me to, so I prayed to God.

That night, right there in my room I asked Him to change my life, and He did.  Since then He has given me true peace, my professional surfing career, true friends and a ministry that uses surfing to share the love of Jesus with young people all over the world.
